PASSAT is an Austrian flagship project supporting domestic companies in implementing the Digital Product Passport (DPP). Reliable product data across the entire lifecycle is the basis for less waste, longer product use and new circular business models.

The project develops practical solutions, regulatory recommendations and training materials, and tests them in pilot applications across textiles, electronics and the ski industry – in close collaboration between industry, research and policy stakeholders.

– Supporting companies: Targeted guidance and training on DPP implementation, and the build-up of a stakeholder group.

– Framework and technology exploration: Development of a generic DPP approach and investigation of enabling technologies – with a focus on data spaces.

– Policy and standards: Recommendations for shaping national and international guidelines and standards.

– Practical demonstration: Development of a minimum viable DPP (MVP) and its application in three use cases.

– Circular economy focus: Advancing the DPP for sustainable product lifecycle such as reuse and recycling.

PASSAT tests the DPP in three practice-oriented use cases:

Textiles: Together with manufacturers Löffler and Grabher, DPPs are being developed for apparel and non-apparel products. A key focus lies on data capture across fragmented supply networks and on seam-integrated identifiers (with Silana).

Electronics: With Fronius and eaw, DPPs are being developed for electronic components and systems. Lifecycle data is structured according to international standards (Asset Administration Shell) – with Secontrade as partner for reuse, repair and recycling.

Ski industry (transferability): With Atomic and Wintersteiger, the project explores how the DPP can be transferred to sectors not yet subject to regulation.

PASSAT regularly hosts DPP Check-Ins – one-hour online sessions held roughly every two months, featuring an update on the DPP and short expert talks from the DPP community. Registration takes place via the PASSAT Stakeholder Network.
