The Austrian Blockchain Center (ABC Research) is a research hub for blockchain and distributed ledger technologies. We support partners along the entire innovation journey – from sharpening an initial idea and running feasibility studies to building working prototypes that are ready for real‑world use.
ABC Research develops application‑oriented blockchain and DLT solutions that strengthen Austria’s business and innovation landscape, acting as a bridge between academia and industry across sectors from financial services to manufacturing. Our mission is to build a world‑class DLT ecosystem, promote best practices and standards, and serve as a leading voice for blockchain advocacy and ecosystem building.

Development

ABC has developed a broad portfolio of concrete blockchain applications, business models and prototypes together with established companies, public institutions and innovative startups. Their development work spans finance, energy, logistics, public administration and industrial use cases, always with a focus on real‑world deployment rather than purely theoretical concepts.
We have co‑developed blockchain‑based solutions for improved customer identification in banking and insurance, blockchain‑supported accounting and auditing, fraud‑resistant tax collection procedures and streamlined cross‑border capital market transactions. In industrial contexts, ABC has worked on cross‑company management of measurement data, human‑machine interaction and machine‑to‑machine communication for Industry 4.0 and IoT, using technologies such as semantic databases, machine learning and data visualization to optimize blockchain‑based processes.

Education

ABC has built a strong education pillar around blockchain and DLT, offering practice‑oriented programs that bridge cutting‑edge research with real‑world business needs. Their goal is to empower executives, professionals and educators to understand, evaluate and implement blockchain solutions in their own organizations.
Education and training—particularly executive education—are defined as one of ABC’s core fields of activity going forward, alongside research, networking and consulting.
